Landmarks of Rohtak-1 (Haryana-India)

 1. Chamber's Dharmshala

Believe it that this magnificent building known as 'Chamber's Dharmshala' was razed to the ground a decade ago when commercial interests of the owners weighed heavy against public interest. Since 1995, almost twenty old buildings that had elements of art and traditional architecture to show up as character of these buildings have been demolished as if the new commerce and tangible aesthetics in small towns has been put on an altar of sacrifice as both seems to be in conflict.
I couldn't get the information in respect of the chief architect of this building but was sure enough that the ornamental work in plaster on its fascia and several sculptures of Lord Krishna, Radha, elephants and cows in both three dimension and relief carving were accomplished by none other than Laloo, the famous artist and sculptor. I could document it before one years when the trustees bid adieu to it. Its location was midway between the Rohtak Railway Junction and Bhiwani Stand and had provided affordable shelter to visitors for more than five decades. This landmark is gone for ever. Incidentally, Rambhaj Pansari flourished from this building who had a Kiryana shop run from its ground floor. The firm soon after shifted to Model Town.
